Super Star Katrina Kaif

April 14, 2008 (Sawf News) - Katrina Kaif has denied recent tabloid rumors that she and Salman Khan are likely to tie the knot soon. Curiously, reports surfaced the same time last year claiming they will wed on April 18, just two days before the Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai wedding.

Katrina is categorical with her denial;

"These rumors are completely false and ridiculous. I am not getting married. These are silly people playing games by spreading these rumors," she told TNN.

"I'd also like to add that I'm booked every day of this year already for my films," she added.

Katrina, who often plays host at private parties thrown by Salman Khan, ridiculously enough, does not acknowledge that the two are an item.

Ironically, when quizzed about the frequent and periodic rumors about their wedding, Katrina said, "It is because people know that both Salman and I do not comment on our private lives ever."

We think they invite the rumors by playing coy about the relationship, instead of acknowledging or denying it.

Last year, there was a second spate of Salman - Katrina wedding rumors in late June, with some of the reports suggesting the two will get married on Christmas Day. Those rumors too proved to be wrong.

We wonder if Katrina's chock full calendar claims will prove to be a deterrent to more rumors this year.

Celina Jaitley

Celina Jaitley is currently working for the director Ken Khan’s movie ‘Love Has No Language’, which is set and shot in New Zealand. Celina and Ken were invited for a party where most of the guests were supposed to be Indians.

Since, Ken doesn’t know Hindi, he asked Celina to teach him how to greet the guest in Hindi. Celina got mischievous and taught him to say: “Namastey, tera baap chor hai!”.

Poor Ken did not realize what the words meant and he learnt them by heart. Later, at the party, he addressed the crowd with the same sentence. Ken realized something was wrong only when he read everyone’s shocked expression.

However, later Celina eased everyone by clarifying the whole issue and accepting that she was the culprit.

Sameera Reddy

The 'Hot babe' of Bollywood, Sameera Reddy has now turned a Naxalite in her forthcoming movie, with Suneil Shetty. The very talented actor cum director Anant Mahadevan will direct this reality based film which is a co-production of Suneil Shetty's Popcorn Entertainment and Balaji Production.
The otherwise glamorous girl of Bollywood, Sameera is very much excited about this film as it will give her a scope to prove her worth in serious roles too, in Hindi. Sameera who has been appreciated for her serious genre roles in Bengali movies is hell-bent to give the character a good face and justify with the role. Sameera is in the meanwhile going thro' many newspapers to avail of the news regarding naxalites. It seems quite shocking while Sameera thinks her character is justified, at least to some extent, with her terrorist activities. According to her, "Zihaad" is also justified. She says, "All negativity has some reason behind that. It's true that a terrorist is wrong, but the question is why the person has followed the wrong turn. No one is born to be a terrorist or a naxalite. The situation makes them terrorists. Even problems in governmental work-stations are sometimes enough to turn people terrorists. Here you cannot determine which is wrong and which is right. I think it's a war in which it's very tough to decide who is wrong or who is wrong." Suneil Shetty, Nasiruddin Shah and Vinod Khanna will also act in the naxalism based realistic drama, along with Sameera.

Amrita Rao,

Atlanta, USA Amrita Rao, – At a time where the art scene in Atlanta is stronger than ever and the city has seen substantial growth in multicultural diversity, Bollywood comes to Buckhead in rare fashion show form. To mark the occasion, the beautiful Indian actress, Amrita Rao, made the trip from Mumbai as a special guest. She participated in the show wearing a beautiful gown and jewels created by Prriya & Chintan.

Taking its name from Hollywood, Bollywood, spelled with the letter B, comes from Bombay, also called Mumbai, a popular city in India known for its active film industry.

Sima Rama and Rita Patel, owners of *Prriya and Chintans Couture & Jewelry and the design talent behind the label, showcased several culturally inspired garments and accessories at an exclusive show held last Friday night at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Buckhead. The designing duo joined forces in 2003 after experiencing much international success with their unique design aesthetic and draped silhouettes. Much of their collection consists of beautifully crafted diamond jewelry and embroidered ready to wear apparel.

Good Day Atlanta’s Suchita Vadlamani, who once called Mumbai in India home, was the hostess for the evening. Suchita commented on the talents of the designers while wearing pieces from their one-of-a-kind collection in various striking colors.

The exclusive pieces showed draping and layering of garments at its best, reminiscent of both Greek and Mesopotamian cultures centuries ago. On the runway, gorgeous ethnic models wore designs of rich colors and embellishments of precious stones. From long flowing creations to an A-line swaggering appeal, the designers’ fusion of Indian culture and modern chic succeeded at satisfying even the healthiest fashion appetite.

Manisha Koirala

Yester year hot Bollywood acteress Manisha Koirala is back into Tollywood to do an item number with her Srikanth. She is going to sizzle in an item number with Srikanth in Nagaram movie which is being produced by Kishore and Sri Mitra Chowdary who is the owner of the real estate company Sri Mitra Agencies. Nagaram has Srikanth and Kaveri Jha in the lead roles with hero Jagapathi Babu doing a guest and important role.

Manisha Koirala is not new to telugu film industry. She already did super hit movies like Criminal, Bombay and Bharateeyudu when she was in her prime time.

Hope she start a good second innings in telugu cinema with this item number like other heroines Simran and Tabu who are having a good time in their second innings here.

Preeti Jhangiani

Hyderabad, April 16 (IANS) Telugu director Raj K.S. Gopi says that Bollywood actress Preeti Jhangiani’s sensuous item number in his directorial debut “Tejam” will boost her career in southern films.
“I’m doing a film with eight newcomers. Preeti is well-known in Telugu but so far she has done mostly offbeat, mellow roles. Now that she is doing an item number, her career will get a boost,” Gopi told IANS.

Preeti, however, said she is playing a “vital role in “Tejam”.

“My role is important to the story as is my dance number,” the actress was quoted as saying.

While Preeti’s pictures in a skimpy outfit has created a wave in Hyderabad ahead of the movie’s release, sources close to her said that the “Mohabbattein” girl was looking forward to the image makeover.

“After her marriage to Parveen Dabbas last year, Preeti’s career was going nowhere. The item number will make people sit up and take notice, hopefully,” a source said.

Minissha Lamba’s birthday fiasco

Minissha Lamba was all excited about celebrating her birthday ( Jan 18th ) with her close buddies at Royal Palms at Goregaon. Everything was smooth as a malt drink until a guest from her party got drunk and tried to piss off Minissha to the extent that her brother Karan had to forcefully throw him out.

A source says, "Everything at the party was going great until a 20 something boy got tipsy and tried to get close to Minissha. He had come along with an invitee. Minissha ignored him for awhile but he followed her around continuously. Karan spoke to him but that was no use as he was too drunk to comprehend anything. Her brother and his friends tried to reason with him again, but the matter got out of control as he hurled abuses. That's when Karan lost his cool and threw him out of the party."
Minissha also confirms the news, "Yes, the unfortunate incident did happen but I don't want to get into the details."
BTW, happy belated birthday Minissha. :)

Diya Mirza

Mumbai, Fab 14

Diya Mirza 's performance in "Shootout At Lokhandwala" as a deglamourised, no-nonsense news reporter fetched her rave reviews. To further improve her acting skills, the actress pursued a course in cinema in New York.

Diya said: "'Shootout At Lokhandwala' is the kind of cinema that I believe in. I played a serious, socially aware woman who doesn't want to attract attention to her physicality. She's a woman in a man's world. She wants her work to be the focus of her personality. Unfortunately we actors cannot hope for such invisibility in our profession. But I'm trying."

To brace herself for more realistic cinema, Diya went to the US to sharpen her acting skills. "I was in New York to participate in a seven-day workshop in acting at New York University. It's very important for every actor to renew and refurbish her skills," she said.

She returned to play a pivotal character in Sanjay Gupta's "Alibaug".

Before Diya, it was Manisha Koirala who had gone to the US to do a course in cinema.

Watch out for Sonu Nigam and Diya Mirza coming together on screen and having some fun. And no, before you think that acting bug has bitten Sonu yet again, then that's not the case as this time around Diya has been roped in for a music video. T-Series is coming up with an album titled 'Kajra Nite' that has the remix of the oldie 'Kajra Mohabbat Waala' as its opening number. Choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant, it has Sonu Nigam singing as well as performing in the music video while Alisha Chinoy lends her voice for Diya. A glossy track with an 'Indian' feel to it throughout, the song is noticeable for Diya looking million bucks. One hopes that this 'Kajra' does the same magic for Diya as it did for Ash in 'Kajra Re' [Bunty Aur Babli]

Karisma Kapoor

The Kapoors are going through a low phase. The crisis in Karisma's
personal life
is being made public. A TV channel recently showed the
mail sent by Karisma to her husband Sanjay. The actress is unable to
understand why there is so much curiosity about her life when she is
not an actress anymore. A close friend says that the mail leaking
out to the media just when an order preventing her from taking her
baby out of the country was issued cannot be a mere coincidence.
Karisma's well-wishers are worried about what a single mother would
have to face in the future. Sister Kareena says her family needs
prayers and not spying eyes. Karisma herself is too shattered to
talk about the whole episode. She has been strong enough to face
life on her own but she cannot comment on what's going on in her
life. Her lawyer has forbidden her to make any statement to the
press as it might be used against her in the court. On the whole, it
looks like Karisma will get the custody of the child.

The actress was Saturday admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

"Priyanka had fainted while shooting for ’What’s Your Rashee?’. She stayed at home for a few days but when her condition didn’t improve, she was admitted to the hospital over the weekend for a few tests," a source close to the actress told IANS.

"She was discharged from the hospital yesterday (Monday) and instead of taking a break, she insisted on resuming work. She is adamant about completing ’What’s Your Rashee?’ by the first week of May so that her other projects do not get delayed," added the source.

Bipasha Basu

With a star on the Bollywood Walk of Fame (we wish), kilos of awards and rewards on her mantelpiece, eight strong years of her relationship with John Abraham, she’s been a mainstay on the ‘most beautiful’ lists for almost a decade now and a whole host of film projects ahead of her, life is good right now for Bipasha Basu. We also researched about the bong babe’s ‘thriller’ fascination. Right from her debut mystery film Ajnabee to the present Race and to her newest next Aa Dekhen Zara, Basu has a knack to turn the thrills into chills. So before we got to talk to her over a specially arranged interview, Bips decided to add some frills too - It took us fifteen text messages, a few phone calls and two days to get through to her. But what added the thrill to our conversation was that the dusky damsel apologised on making us a bit distressed, not that we wished her to do, but she sweetly did, making us feel mortified. Bollywood Hungama’s London correspondent and UK’s Harrow Observer columnist gets up close and personal with the exuberant, fervent and coherent actress Bipasha Basu where she unlocks the mystery about the high point in her career, her latest film Aa Dekhen Zara, co-star Neil Nitin Mukesh, director Jehangir Surti, boyfriend John Abraham, her gruelling fitness regime, her best captured moment on the digi cam and why the Indian Film Industry desperately requires a casting director.

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan is the brand ambassador of NGO Nanhi Kali, which propagates education for the girl child. She will soon be funding the education of some children from the NGO. Says a source close to Vidya, “Vidya had been associated with an NGO ever since she started working but a few months ago she decided to withdraw her support against that and join Nanhi Kali. She had sponsored a girl child from the earlier NGO.

Starlet Vidya Balan has rubbished rumours on her supposed romance with actor Vivek Oberoi. The actress seems to be in no mood for fun and has come down heavily on assumptions regarding her personal life.

Vidya, who’s been linked to almost every actor that she has worked in the past, is surprised by the link-up, as she is not even working with Vivek at present. In a clarification to the media, the actress exclaimed “I have met Vivek some one-and-a-half times only.”

She may not be one of the most powerful actresses in Bollywood, but Vidya Balan is powerful enough to launch two new stars. The actress showed up at an event in Mumbai to launch two new global toon characters… and it’s all for a good cause.

Meet Fafa and Juno - two new characters on the toon block who promise to share their warm and compassionate world with the kids around them. Touted to be India’s first animated intellectual property - Fafa and Juno - got Vidya Balan cheering for them. The actress supports Nanhi Kali, an NGO working for underprivileged girls - which will receive a part of the sales proceeds from the Fafa and Juno merchandise.

‘Gajini’ Asin with Amir Khan!

When Asin made her debut in M.Kumaran’s Son of Mahalakshmi with Jayam Ravi, nobody expected that this actress from Kochi was going to make such an impressive career in Kollywood. In film after film, the young actress proved her skills, and reserved a permanent place for herself among the top- ranking heroines within a short span of time. She has done a variety of characters with almost all the leading heroes of Tamil, except the super star Rajini Kanth. May be this will come true when she does her next film with the Sathya Movies. But with a number of offers pouring in from Bollywood, this talented actress might not get a chance to act with Rajini Kanth.
Yes…after having signed up for the hindi remake of Gajini with Amir Khan, 4 more Bollywood offers have come her way, and she has accepted all with pleasure. Rakesh Mehra, director of Rang De Basanthi, has also got Asin for his next project on an experimental basis. Talks are going on for her to act in 3 other Hindi movies. Sources say that her PRO in Mumbai has already booked a bungalow for her in the Juhu area on a lease basis. No one will be surprised, if Asin is able to purchase the same in the near future! All these offers have confirmed one thing. Asin will probably get a place among the likes of Hemamalini, Sridevi and Jayaprada; all these actresses hail from the south, and they rocked the Hindi film industry at once.

Malaika Arora 3-months pregnant?

When we think of Malaika Arora, the two things that come in our minds are her stunning figure and her washboard abs.

Now recently Malaika walked at the Lakme Fashion Week Fall-Winter 09 for Vikra Chatwal, while she looked stunning in the light colored gown, we were surprised by her bulging tummy which clearly looked like a baby bump.

As she walked down the ramp, some people in the crowd started to whisper and discuss about Malaika’s pregnancy and the leggy lass is apparently 3-months pregnant.

What do you think folks? Is that a bloated tummy or a baby bump?

Shilpa Shetty

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty will be marrying her fiance Raj Kumdra in October of this year, but until then, they are renovating a 5 million pound Surrey home at St George's Hill.
Shilpa seems to be getting into the country life, saying that she can't wait to start raising a family there.

The home isn't the only thing Shilpa and Raj co-own.
They are also co-owners of the Rajasthan Royals, a franchise cricket team that represents the state of Rajasthan in the IPL (Indian Premier League).
Last year, the Royals won the inaugural DLF IPL T-20 Tournament.
Of course Shilpa isn't the only Bollywood celeb to invest in the Twenty20 format of the game.
Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Preity Zinta also have interests in the Twenty20 format.

Amrita Arora

Amrita Arora Hindi: born 31 January 1979 is an Indian actress. Amruta is the sister of Malaika Arora, her brother-in-law is Arbaaz Khan, the brother of Salman Khan. Amrita Aroda's name was linked to Kevin Otter, Upen Patel and Ashmit Patel for romance. She dated English cricketer Usman Afzaal.

After the success of "Partner", Lara Dutta is on a fast track now. There’s a new determination in her to overcome her inhibitions, whatever they might be worth. And the first one is overcoming the fear of diving underwater.

While she prepares to do her first ever avant-garde film "Devdas" with Sudhir Mishra, in which she intends to change her entire image and get-up to play a modern-day Paro, in a new sporty film entitled "Blue", Lara has gone several steps further.

She has actually managed to overcome her fear of the underwater to do some serious scuba diving with the ever-sporty Akshay Kumar. For years now, Lara has been petrified of taking the plunge. Akshay urged her to not only accept a film that needed her to go against her ingrained fears, but also helped her out of the dive-despair.

Laughing throatily, Lara admits she has gotten over a lifelong fear. "But I can’t speak about what it is. Yes, Akshay’s natural sporty spirit is contagious. And it helped me take the plunge." She reminisces fondly about Akshay.

"He was my first co-star in ’Andaaz’ and was very helpful. Then we did ’Bhagam Bhaag’ when he was fully into comedy. I didn’t know I had a comic streak in me until then. Now that he’s returning to action, I’m also moving on from comedy to big time action."

Ayesha Takia

Ayesha Takia was supposed to wed restaurateur Farhan Azmi on Christmas Eve but her wedding has now been postponed to mid-2009. All this thanks to the terror attacks in Mumbai.

The groom, Farhan confirmed the news saying,”Ayesha is currently in Greece shooting a song for Boney Kapoor’s Wanted. The groom-to-be confirms, “When Ayesha heard the news of the attacks, she broke down. Dad (SP party leader Abu Azmi), was in a hospital recuperating from an operation; he too started crying when he heard about the terrorist attacks. None of us are in the mood for any celebrations this year. Our mood is too grim and somber. There can be no wedding celebrations as of now maybe mid-2009 and that too it will be a small and private affair.”

Farhan adds, “We are all shaken up by what happened. I saw it happening next door, as Nariman House is seven buildings away from our home and very close to the Taj and Oberoi hotels. When the Oberoi was sealed, many guests came from there to Koyla and CafĂ© Basilico (both owned by Farhan). None wanted to stay, so I took them home. On the first night from Koyla, which is 500m away from the Taj, we could see the fire burning on the sixth floor and hear women and children screaming to be let out ‘please help us’… It still gives me goose bumps to even think about it.”

Ayesha had informed all her producers and directors that she will quit acting after she gets married and she intended to wrap all her committments before December.

Amisha Pate

She is one actress whose wings are spread beyond films.

Amisha Patel, these days is busy with something more serious and meaningful. The actress will be a part of a very prestigious conference for the United Nations, and will be addressing the issue of ‘human trafficking’ in New Delhi, along with Bollywood hunk, John Abraham, Renuka Chaudhary, Oscar Fernandes amongst others.

This programme, followed by a dinner will be attended by industrialists, corporate honchos, politicians and several prominent personalitites from other South Asian countries.

Rani Mukherjee

Is Rani Mukherjee the new Mrs Chopra?

Is Rani Mukherjee married to top producer Aditya Chopra? No-one is saying but my source tells me the alleged couple will make an announcement very soon. This is because Mukherjee’s latest and perhaps last film as a leading lady, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (A Stain on your Reputation), is released this week. Why is it that in 2007 Bollywood actresses still feel the need to appear single in order to be successful? The key exception of course is the new Mrs Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, who is as busy as ever with her Bollywood and Hollywood projects.

Riya Sen

Riya Sen: A Rising Star From Bengal
